Maker Spaces ...
What ...
Maker Spaces are dedicated spaces where people of all ages can learn through exploring.
Everyone can experiment, tinker, play, collaborate, and have fun.
You can set up either specific instructions or even better, open-ended challenges.
Who ...
You... Colleagues... Staff... Kids... Clients... Mums... Dads... Grandparents... Aunts... Uncles... Cousins... Everyone
Maker Spaces are for everyone - no experience or knowledge is required - just a thirst for knowledge, a creative mind, and a want to tinker.
Why ...
From a business and education point of view, Maker Spaces have an economic benefit.
They are good for innovation, creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and problem solving which are all skills that businesses and educators want and need their staff and students to have.
By fostering these skills at your Workplace or Education Facility, you will gain a financial benefit through staff and student development, innovative ideas, and a "I can do it!" attitude.
How ...
Start small ... you don't have to outlay a lot of money or have the latest and greatest Maker Space at your Workplace.
Start with a table setup in your lunch room with a box of Lego, two Edison Robots, and a printed out workshop booklet - free from Edison’s website.
If you want to go bigger, add a microscope, an Arduino electronic set, and a Laptop with MIT Scratch's Visual Coding Language on it. Provide handouts and DIY project examples... Spice it up with Monthly Company Challenges and see who can produce the brightest idea....
Great for communication, friendly competition, and innovation.
